Job Description

A highly skilled Sign Language Interpreter is sought for a contract position for the current school year at a high school location in Bluffton, South Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to facilitate effective communication and support the educational experience of deaf and hard-of-hearing students within the classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide clear and accurate sign language interpretation to students, teachers, and staff during classes and school activities.
• Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, faculty, and administration.
• Ensure that all interpreted communication is culturally and linguistically appropriate to support student learning.
• Collaborate with educators and support personnel to assist with curriculum accessibility.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and adhere to ethical standards in interpretation.

Desired Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting experience.
• Familiarity with educational settings and terminology.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with diverse students and staff.
• Commitment to supporting the academic success and inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
• Availability to work full time for the duration of the contract school year.
