Description Under general supervision, the Victim Services Advocate provides a variety of support services to victims of crime, law enforcement and the community. This is accomplished by providing crisis intervention; tracking and supporting victims throughout the legal process; advising victims of their rights; and coordinating application for compensation.
Posted range is the starting salary. Pay rate offered is based on experience. Examples of Duties - Create professionally written communications and utilization of law enforcement database for investigative needs.
- Respond to requests for services by police department personnel and members of the community.
- Provide or arrange for transportation of victims for police related matters.
- Respond to telephone calls from victims, community members and other agencies.
- Develop and maintain relationships with service providers and coordinates services for victims and persons in need.
- Works cooperatively with the officers and detectives, while advocating for the rights of the victims of crime, as outlined in the Code of Criminal Procedure, Chapter 56-Rights of Crime Victims.
- Assist with administration of the Victim Services Volunteer program including scheduling and monitoring the program in the absence of the coordinator.
- Develops and presents public information and educational programs for community groups, police department training and general education.
- Provide emotional and moral support to victims and relay pertinent information to detectives.
- Assist detectives with follow-up on victims.
- Provide care of minors or infants when in temporary custody.
- Answer questions about protective orders.
- Conduct follow up contact with victims of crime and provides referrals to other agencies.
- All other duties, as necessary for the good of the department and community.
Experience and Training - Associates degree is required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience is required. Two years of additional work experience directly related to the role may substitute for Associate's degree.
Certificates and Licenses Required - Current Texas Class C driver license or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
- Must be willing to work various shifts that include evenings, weekends and holidays, and be on a rotating on-call work schedule.
