Summary The Victim Witness Advocate is responsible for providing assistance to victims of crime.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Process, review, and update files with victim information upon the case's receipt in the office.
- Prepare and send information to victims; provide victims with detailed information concerning victim rights, the criminal justice process, and sources of assistance.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of contacts with victims.
- Assist investigators with follow up request and information needed from victims.
- Must be able to work with outside agencies.
- Assist if requested on a scene to assist family member of a violent crime-homicide and or suicide.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience The Victim Witness Advocate should possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Prior administrative support experience in a legal or court setting is preferred.

Evaluation:

Until the completed application packet (including all documents) is accepted by the Sheriff's Office, you are not considered an applicant,and will not be given consideration for a position in the Bibb County Sheriff's Office. If Sheriff's Office personnel feel you are a viable candidate for the position for which you applied, you will undergo a thorough Internal Affairs background investigation. If the outcome of the background investigation is acceptable, you will be contacted for an interview by the Sheriff or his/her designee. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the drug screen. You will be notified of your final status by Human Resources or designee. Should you be hired, you will be instructed to complete the onboarding tasks and attend new hire orientation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge of legal terminology used within the office.
- Knowledge of legal procedures, forms, and documents.
- Knowledge of business letter writing techniques.
- Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and security of private information.
- Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization as well as the public.
