Job Summary

The Labor and Community Center of the Greater Capital Region at UC Davis Law (Center) is seeking candidates with expertise or interest in regional labor issues and/or issues affecting vulnerable (low-wage, undocumented, gig, etc.) workers. The Center champions nonpartisan, evidence-based domestic policy solutions that improve the economic, political, and social landscape for workers in the state of California. The Center fosters innovative research, leverages policy-relevant expertise, drives civic engagement, and nurtures a leadership pipeline to propel viable policy reforms that expand opportunity for all workers. #CA-AR

Under the direction of the Faculty Director, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for executing outreach, developing strategic partnerships, supporting advocacy and engaging communications strategies around workplace-related issues with workers and worker organizations in Northern California, with specific focus on rural regions north of Sacramento. The Project Coordinator will conduct the aforementioned tasks to complete a landscape analysis of critical issues facing workers, provide workplace-related information material, and coordinate workshops, convenings, trainings and other events as part of the Center's California Worker Outreach Project initiative. This position will require extensive travel to priority northern counties in California to accomplish the deliverables outlined and will need to ensure that all activities are properly accounted for in the CORD system.

The Project Coordinator will work with all the Center's research team to coordinate on data, evaluation, and research relevant efforts, including: Execution of surveys, interviews, and focus groups; Data acquisition, organization, entry, and processing/cleaning; Quantitative and qualitative data analysis using statistical software, database management, use of data sets; Assist in preparation of human subjects/IRB applications when needed; Production of high-quality data visualizations, charts, tables, and spreadsheets.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
• A MA or terminal degree in Social Science, Law or Humanities and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Expertise in U.S. and/or international labor movements, and/or racial and economic justice organizations and campaigns.
• Bilingual - Spanish-English
• Demonstrated exceptional abilities at writing, reporting and copy editing. This includes the ability to write concise, logical, grammatically correct documents and materials for academic and public consumption.
• Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional, effective working relationships with academic leaders; university administrators, faculty, staff, students; volunteers; campus donors and prospects project funders and their representatives; and the general public to advance the Center's goals and meet objectives.
• Ability to manage workload effectively and complete assignments promptly amid conflicting demands, multiple deadlines, competing requirements, and changing priorities.
• Skills to prepare data presentation and marketing materials based on intended audience (colleagues, faculty, students, employers, etc.). Advanced computer skills in Microsoft and Mac environment, including, Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD
• Experience in institutional research in higher education, quantitative and qualitative data analysis software.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of state and local government, community, academic leaders and policy-makers.
• Analytical skills to evaluate operations and client needs and develop information and applications responsive to those needs. A high level of research analysis and judgment required to clean data, oversee software programming and web development, and coordinate collaborative relationships.
• Familiarity with rural contexts and northern counties such as Shasta, Humboldt and Lake.

The Labor Center will develop labor-centered, community-engaged, policy-relevant research, education and public programming that serves the labor movement and social justice struggles more broadly in the Greater Sacramento region, rural Northern California and parts of the San Joaquin Valley. The UC Davis Labor and Community Initiative is rooted in the belief that a vibrant labor movement is vital to redressing the range of inequities that plague workers and their loved ones. The UC Davis Labor and Community Initiative is committed to working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders representing trade unions, workers' organizations and other groups addressing issues that working people face as a means of not simply advancing scholarly debates about workers but on-the- ground struggles led by workers.
