First of all, don’t have a ton of automotive knowledge? No worries. We already have people to dyno engines, tune shocks and build awesome cars. We’re searching for the right intern to join our team of data scientists and analysts on our mission to better understand our customers as they experience Speedway Motors and build the project of their dreams.

Sure, it’s a plus if you are into cars and there’s a learning curve. But if you’re the right fit, you’ll figure it out pretty fast, right?  So, we’ve got a few questions for you.

A successful team member in this role will use their data science skills and business knowledge to help teams experiment and learn rapidly by providing data visualizations, statistical or big data analysis, and data aggregation to answer customer and business problems.  These techniques help teams deliver value continuously by providing insights into what is valuable for improving business metrics and customer experience.  As a member of our Business Intelligence team, you will work closely with cross-functional teams from across the company to create analysis, insights, visualizations, and provide recommendations that lead to experiences that our customers will love. Don’t expect to simply be handed a list of to-do items; you’ll be applying your full analytical problem-solving abilities to think about best ways to analyze, visualize, experiment and drive improvements in customer and internal facing experiences.

Here are the specifics:

• Discover, design, and deliver intuitive data-visualizations and insightful analysis that help our teams make better decisions, faster.
• Building predictive models used to improve customer experience, reduce eCommerce churn, and increase CLTV.

• Building customer segmentation models to unearth non-obvious patterns in consumer behavior and improve the specificity with which we communicate with our customer base.
• Maintain our Customer Data Platform (Segment); ensure data governance is maintained.
• Understand, analyze, and improve fulfillment and other operational processes to help our teams deliver efficiently and on-time to our customers.
• We practice business agility, not Capital ‘A’ Agile.  It’s common to find your team Pair or Mobbing on a challenging problem together.
• Principles we find effective in working together are drawn from Modern Agile: Delivering Value Continuously, Experiment and Learn Rapidly, Make our Users Awesome, and Safety as a Prerequisite.

• Partner with Business Units across the company, as well as other stakeholders to deliver effective analysis and insights that deliver measurable, positive results towards company goals.

• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to succeed in this position:

• You are available at least 20 hours per week (PT Fall & Spring interns)
• You are available at least 40 hours per week (FT Summer interns)

• Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Economics, Business Management, Engineering, Math, or relevant field; or equivalent experience from Data Science Bootcamp
• A strong Interest in Data Science, Modeling, Machine-learning, and Data Visualizations
• Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra, calculus), analytical mind with an eye for detail, design, and an uncanny ability in identifying customer trends
• Some familiarity with SQL, Python, and Excel
• Strong independent decision-making, organizational, planning and problem-solving skills
• While we do offer the opportunity for remote work, remote work may only be completed in Nebraska, Arizona, West Virginia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, or Wyoming.
