SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS AND CHARGING UNIT (SICU) GRANT - LIMITED TERM GRANT FUNDED POSITION

 

The Office of the State’s Attorney is currently seeking highly qualified applicant to fill one (1) grant vacancy of Investigator II. The selected candidate will serve as an Investigator for the Investigative Unit. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

JOB TITLE: Investigator II

SALARY: $67,000.00

 

BENEFITS: Limited Term Grant Funded (LTGF) employees may enroll only in CIGNA HMO or CIGNA PPO for medical benefits. LTGF employees are not eligible for vision, dental or prescription coverage.

 

LOCATION: Upper Marlboro Courthouse - 14735 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

 

TYPICAL DUTIES: The incumbent will be responsible for providing investigations, security, and other related duties. These duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Conduct interviews of witnesses and defendants. Investigate leads obtained using investigative skills.
  • Initiate investigation of complaints and allegations brought to the Office of the State’s Attorney for filing of criminal charges and prosecution.
  • Locate and serve subpoenas on witnesses. Pick up and transport witnesses.
  • Review and ensure that thorough record checks are done as part of the investigative process and at request of State’s Attorney’s Office staff.
  • Respond to different jurisdictions to obtain certified copies of defendant’s prior convictions.
  • Receive office phone calls from citizens regarding complaints. Direct callers to appropriate agency or solution. Implement problem solving methods.
  • Provide the Chief of Investigations with written agendas and reports.
  • Report directly to the Chief of Investigations in addition to providing him/her status updates of case load.
  • Maintain required firearms certification and attends mandated training as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional
  • Training Commission.
  • Work in concert with other Federal, State, and local enforcement agencies in a professional manner as a representative of the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County.
  • Provide protective services for the State’s Attorney and other staff members as directed.
  • Provide and/or arrange for security for State’s witnesses and/or victims.
  • Testify before the Grand Jury as required.
  • Remain “on-call” 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Unit Chief.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR CANDIDATES:

Bachelor's Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business, or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields; plus, experience which has provided the required knowledges, skills, and abilities to perform at the Investigator II level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT : Candidates must:

  • Pass a background investigation.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) accreditation.
  • Have a valid Maryland State driver’s license upon appointment.
