Job Description Summary
The Senior Research Investigator will independently create complex datasets linking files across a wide array of large disparate data sources, skillfully construct variables and instruments, complete data analysis, and participate in manuscript and grant preparation. This individual will also be able to execute complex analysis in collaboration with the lead team statistician. This individual should have significant, proven experience in the design of complex data systems for the analysis of medical outcomes. Expertise in data management and statistical software such as STATA, SAS, R, Sequel etc. is required. Individual will have a leadership role and will be responsible for the supervision of statistical research staff. Responsibilities include designing and developing innovative solutions to streamline workflows and provide developmental support for future projects working in collaboration with the PI. This includes coordination of data request process, development of and adherence to data use agreements(s), enforcement of DUAs, and grant management and preparation. Create a collaborative team culture, work with trainees across a wide array of learner levels, teach and engage in scientific community activities. Build and maintain strategic, high-level relationships across the School and University to leverage resources and maintain knowledge of new or emerging technologies and solutions.

Position is contingent upon continued grant funding.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design complex surgical outcomes databases; responsible for organizing information to create a complex data model based on the surgical outcomes research, coordinate and analyze data.
  • Integrate database systems with statistics programs using SAS, Stata, and other tools. Analyzing the data requirements and ensure that the design/configuration of the database system is appropriate
  • Independently perform complex programming using large databases of more than 20 million records and nationwide hospital data sets for use in health services research and quality and analysis. Create analytic files. Develop the standard statistical algorithms for hypothesis testing
  • Develop faculty education programs specific to the design of data base systems as part of a doctoral program in the Department of Surgery. Surgeon education in programming and basic statistics (applied not theoretical)
  • Prepare grant applications including organization of purchase orders and data use agreements
  • Supervise student, residents, fellows, lab members
  • Contribute to preparation of manuscripts, presentations, posters specific to complex data bases for outcomes research.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • PhD in biomedical informatics, epidemiology/public health (with a published thesis) or biostatistics, and 5 years post doctoral experience required
