Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide a degree seeking student with an opportunity to gain practical railroad experience in the areas of real estate, surveying & mapping, land management and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Duties and Responsibilities: Maps data related to contracts for display in the Alaska Railroad web mapping application. Performs due diligence when needed to verify and ensure data is true and correct.Assists with mapping other land related information as needed.Performs land records research.Assists with land management related tasks as needed.Assists with mapping buildings, utilities and other railroad facilities in the field.
FACTOR 1: Technical and Operational Knowledge Knowledge of basic computer use is required. Must be willing and excited to learn and explore new software independently. Must have excellent attention to detail, precision and accuracy. Interests, Coursework, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities in any of the following subjects is desirable but not required: Artificial Intelligence, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Programming or Science, Microsoft Excel & Word, Information Technology, Building Information Management (BIM), Real Estate Leasing & Market Analysis, Photogrammetry & Drone Data Collection, Reading Construction Plans, Geometry & Trigonometry, Project Management, Document Management, Technical Writing, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Property Management, Real Estate & Contract Law, Utility & Railroad Operations, Database Management, and Data Science.
FACTOR 2: Analytical Skills and Impact Focus on efficiently and accurately mapping data which will assist in long term planning and decision making. Assists railroad departments when need which may include but is not limited to Real Estate, Project Management, Engineering, Right of Way and Public Projects, and Information Technology.
FACTOR 3: Supervision and Control The incumbent has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The position is within the Alaska Railroad Real Estate Department which includes facilities, leasing, permitting, land management, and environmental personal. The incumbent works under the direction of the Manager, Land Services and Geospatial Programs in applying academic learning to the performance of assigned duties.
FACTOR 4: Communication Contacts are with Real Estate Department personnel and other ARRC employees for the purpose of coordinating work assignments and performance of day-to-day duties. In a learning environment, the incumbent brings issues and discrepancies to the Land Services Specialist or Manager for resolution, and receives instructions as to how to handle situations.
FACTOR 5: Working Conditions Working conditions are primarily office based in Anchorage, Alaska with the exception of possible field work within the railroad yards, Alaska Railroad Corporation reserve lands, and up and down the railbelt. Field work may include mapping rail infrastructure such as buildings, utilities, and boundary monumentation.

Alaska Railroad Corporation Benefits The following briefly describes the main benefits available to regular employees of the Alaska Railroad Corporation. Actual benefits differ by bargaining unit.
Retirement Plans ARRC Pension Plan - Participation is mandatory. You are automatically enrolled in the Plan when you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Employees contribute 9% of their Earnings on a pre-tax basis. The Railroad is exempt from participation in Social Security; however, Medicare Tax is withheld. Participants vest with 5 years of eligible Vesting Service which entitles one to receive a pension benefit at retirement age.
Tier 2 Description (Employees hired after July 1, 2015) Normal Retirement Age is age 65, however, the plan allows one to retire as early as age 60. The formula for a monthly Normal Retirement Benefits is 2% x Final Average Earnings x all Credited Service.
Early retirement, survivor and disability benefits are available for vested participants.
401(k) Tax Deferred Savings Plan - Participation is optional. You may enroll once you meet the eligibility requirement of your bargaining unit. Depending on the bargaining unit, there may be an employer match.
457 Deferred Compensation Plan - Participation is optional for non-represented employees.
Insurance and Flexible Spending Plans All plans are optional except the RR Dental Plan for bargaining unit employees.
Health Insurance Plan A comprehensive health insurance plan, self-insured by the ARRC and administered by Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska. Coverage is also available for the employee's spouse and dependent children. ARRC and the participant share the premium cost. Bargaining unit employees are Eligibility after 90 days, and non-represented employees are eligible as of the date of hire.
The Railroad offers a Prefered Provider Organization plan (PPO Blue Essentials) and a Consumer Directed Healthcare Plan with a Health Saving Account (Gold Essentials). The Plans have the following features.

The Alaska Railroad Optional Dental Plan for both represented and non-represented employees.

0-3 Years of Service = 4 Hours
>3-15 Years of Service = 6 Hours
>15 Years of Service = 8 Hours
Non-Represented Employees
0-3 Years of Service = 6 Hours
>3-15 Years of Service = 8 Hours
>15 Years of Service = 10 Hours
Sick Leave: accrues at 4 hours (Represented) or 2 hours (Non-Represented) per pay period.
