The Field & Studio Videographer's responsibilities are related to the lighting and recording of material for public television programming. This involves helping to select locations, record & deliver images that are technically and aesthetically appropriate for the programming, and easily edited. This is a NABET union position. This position is part time intermittent; candidates are scheduled as needed, based on project need
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: FIELD PRODUCTION OPERATIONS (85% of time)- Consult with the Producer/Reporter about locations, daily schedules, recording strategies, aesthetics, and other production considerations; advise the Producer/Reporter on the best decisions to achieve productions goals
- Work independently as assigned; operate cameras and other production gear to capture picture and sound for field production
- Apply mastery of the equipment and techniques to ensure the best possible product, including electronic newsgathering (ENG) storytelling
- Set up lighting to create images appropriate to the style of the production
- Direct talent as needed to fulfill production requirements
- Participate as a member of the production planning team; contribute a Studio & Field Director's special knowledge to ensure adequate preparation for production
- Organize, test, and transport gear to and from locations; ensure safe and proper handling of all gear in use
- Utilize TPT scheduling systems
STUDIO PRODUCTION OPERATIONS (5% of time)- Consult with the Director about the script, sequence, blocking, aesthetics, and other production considerations;
- Under the guidance of the Director, operate studio camera and related equipment in coordination with other studio personnel; apply mastery of the equipment and techniques to ensure the best possible product
- Function as leader of the Studio and Control Room Production Crew; collaborate with the Floor Director to coordinate efforts of all studio personnel; collaborate with Audio Techs in the selection and mix of all audio sources; direct talent when appropriate
- Participate as a member of the Studio Production Planning Team; contribute a Videographer's special knowledge to ensure adequate preparation for production
- Install and move sets, props, lighting, and technical equipment in TPT studios to support productions
FACILITIES SUPPORT (5% of time)- Monitor the condition of technical facilities; report needed maintenance and recommend upgrades/improvements that would improve performance
- Request time for maintenance as needed and perform it as scheduled
- Participate in new equipment testing and purchasing; provide a practitioner's perspective to help TPT make the best purchasing decisions
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5% of time)- Participate as an active member of the Production Services Team; contribute to shared goals and collaborate with colleagues on achievement of priorities
- Complete all production-related paperwork (e.g. work order signoffs, credit card transactions, fuel purchases)
- Advise and/or train other production staff members
- Keep abreast of developments in television technology and storytelling aesthetics
- Other duties as assigned
Rate of Pay: Approximately $56.52 an hour and per NABET Union scale QUALIFICATIONS Required Experience - High School Diploma
- Minimum 5 years of experience in wide variety of professional field shooting assignments
Preferred Experience - Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum 5 years of experience in wide variety of professional field shooting assignments
- Experience performing a variety of roles of television production involving a wide variety of programs
Knowledge, skills and abilities: - Expert ability to operate all TPT field cameras, field support equipment, and lighting instruments
- Expert knowledge of multicamera television production operations and the use of equipment/facilities (e.g. studio-configured cameras, monitors, studio lighting, intercom systems, audio systems, cranes/jibs/dollies)
- Strong visual communication skills (composition, lighting, exposure, focus, camera movement)
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all team members
- Strong focus on audience and end user needs; ability to collaborate with content personnel on project expectations
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced, time sensitive production environment
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to travel to locations in the greater metro area on a frequent basis; occasional travel throughout Minnesota and outside the state
- Ability to discern all colors on the visible spectrum.
