This student worker position supports the Minnesota Flex Program by conducting applied research and developing clear, comprehensive documentation to inform program planning and technical assistance efforts. Under staff guidance, the student will research topics relevant to rural health systems in Minnesota and translate findings into written reports, summaries, and resource materials. Project areas may include rural transportation systems (medical and non-medical), readiness of Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) and small rural hospitals to participate in population health models, emerging models of emergency medical services (EMS) delivery, and updates to resources supporting CAH regulatory compliance preparation and planning. The information gathered will be used to strengthen the Minnesota Flex Program's ability to support CAHs and rural EMS providers across the state.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Conduct environmental scan of current medical and non-medical transportation options in Minnesota.
- Organize and aggregate Community Health Needs Assessment data conducted by Critical Access Hospitals.
- Update, develop and maintain database(s), resource files and planning tools, and chartbooks.
- Use infographics, dashboards or other communications tools to assist in promoting research and data.
- Update and maintain hospital data that exists in multiple spreadsheets.
- Assist in developing a chartbook or other tool that allows for more ready access and analysis of the data; assist in developing infographics, dashboards or other communication tools to enhance use of the data.
- Work with program staff and grantees to determine activities and continuous improvement tools and help identify best practices among Minnesota CAHs in addressing gaps and challenges in rural health.
The telework policy exempts employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement to help the State of Minnesota benefit from top talent in every corner of the state.
This vacancy announcement will be used to fill up to three (3) Student Worker positions.
This position is part-time and will work up to 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible within 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position is anticipated to last up to three years or until the selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - Completion of two years of post-secondary education in one of the following areas: Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Informatics or a related public health field.
- Currently accepted or enrolled in a degree-seeking graduate program (MPH, MS) in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Informatics or a related public health field.
Additional minimum qualifications to be assessed during the interview:
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate in a clear, concise, effective manner.
Student Worker Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits. If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.
Preferred Qualifications - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with members of the public and health care professionals.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relations with co-workers, supervisors, and health care professionals.
- Critical thinking skills and judgement.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, adapt to change, collect and enter data, and pay attention to details.
