Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Firewatch join our Team in the Decatur, AL area. The Firewatch will be responsible for contacting employees on the job and shutting down all equipment (welding machines, etc.) and directing the employees to the correct evacuation route in the case of a gas or chemical spill.

Essential Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent
  • Must have completed company specific qualification training for Firewatch/Holewatch
  • Must be able to operate a plant radio to call Plant Operations and the Foreman in case of an emergency
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Functional Requirements:

  • Stays awake and alert at all times
  • Knows what is going on in the area and on the job
  • Stays in constant contact with the people doing the work
  • Knows where the nearest fire extinguisher is located and how to use it
  • Knows where the emergency/safety equipment is located and how to use it
  • Knows where the welding machines in use are located on the job and how to turn them off if neccessary
  • Knows where the oxygen and acetylene bottles are located and how to turn them off if neccessary
  • Keeps the area clean at all times
  • Never leaves a job unattended
  • Properly relieved before leaving a job
  • Knows who and how to contact in case of an emergency on a job
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction

Compensation:

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement:

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level;
maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating
objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment;
lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.;
standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting ; seeing with or without
correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; stepstool use; work in
excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment
