Position Summary:
The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a licensed Master Electrician to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across city parks, recreation facilities, and construction projects. This role ensures safe, efficient, and code-compliant electrical work, secures necessary permits, coordinates inspections, and provides technical expertise to support the city’s construction and maintenance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform highly skilled electrical work including installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, circuits, and lighting in public buildings and facilities.
Review and coordinate electrical plans with engineers, planners, and contractors, recommending adjustments as needed.
Research, bid, and procure materials and supplies for projects.
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical problems while maintaining compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety standards.
Apply for and secure electrical permits, and coordinate inspections of completed work.
Maintain accurate records of projects, inspections, and maintenance activities.
Operate hand and power tools, and motorized equipment safely and efficiently.
Work independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Respond to on-call situations, including evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree or 2-year technical degree in electrical technology or related field preferred.
Master Electrician License required.
3 to 5 years of experience in electrical trades.
Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required within six months of hire.
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification required.
Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, materials, and best practices.
Strong understanding of National Electrical Code and safety regulations.
Ability to interpret engineered plans and drawings.
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Ability to work in outdoor environments, construction sites, and under varying weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds occasionally, with frequent physical activity including standing, walking, climbing, and operating equipment.
Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noises, fumes, and potential hazards associated with construction and maintenance work.
