Position Summary:

The Order Picker/Packer is responsible for picking and packing e-commerce orders in preparation for shipment. Picking and packing duties can change several times per day depending on current workload requirements. Orders are picked using a handheld computer in conjunction with Warehouse Management System software. Packing the order involves assessing orders to determine proper carton sizes and appropriate packing methods. Warehouse hours are M-Th 7a-4:30p and Friday 7am-11am. *** This position is temporary starting ASAP through the week of Christmas.***

This position supports and contributes to the Ten Thousand Villages mission by:

Ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of products from the time of arrival from our artisan partners around the world until the receipt of the products by our end customers.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

• Stage, pick, inspect, gift wrap, pack and ship e-commerce orders as directed by Shipping Supervisor or E-commerce Coordinator. Special emphasis should be given to ensure these orders are shipped accurately and in such a way as to avoid damage while in transit.
• Assess and determine appropriate packing sequence and materials for the order.
• Keep pick carts and pick/pack areas orderly and clean.
• Train new and seasonal personnel how to properly pick and pack orders, as directed by the Shipping Supervisor or E-commerce Coordinator.
• Observe all safety protocol and contribute to a safe working environment.
• Perform general warehouse duties and assist in other departments as directed.
• Perform additional duties/responsibilities as requested which contribute to the position’s success and the mission.

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Education/Skills/Abilities:

• Accuracy in counting, close attention to detail
• Familiarity with computers or willingness to learn; Warehouse Management System (WMS) experience a plus
• Flexibility; able to work with interruptions and changing work priorities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well and provide training to others
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Types of Interaction (internal):

• Warehouse supervisors and staff, including temps and volunteers

Physical Requirements:

• This job operates in a normal warehouse environment protected from outside weather conditions but exposed to varying temperatures, moving vehicles, and dust.
• This role requires the ability to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally and requires close visual acuity. Noise level may be loud at times.
• This role requires constant movement, repetitive motion, and use of limbs to stoop, crouch, reach, push, pull, finger, and grasp objects of varying size and texture. Standing and walking for the duration of the workday and both hearing and talking abilities are required.
