Join our team to find a purpose-driven career, an inclusive culture, and robust benefits to support your life while you’re working to help others. *Position Overview* The Database Developer is responsible for managing and tuning high-availability PostgreSQL databases associated with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and participates in cross-functional project teams developing software involving these databases. This position will participate in monitoring systems and providing proactive preventative maintenance, as well as recommendations for improvements and optimizations for current and future designs. This role will assist in developing data migrations, upgrading databases, participate in data warehousing efforts and developing suitable test plans for these changes. This person will participate in SQL development and mentoring other engineers in optimizing and writing efficient queries. This is a hybrid position based out of our Madison, WI office location. *Essential Duties* Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and proactively review performance monitoring of production PostgreSQL databases.
  • Evaluate database parameters and system settings for performance and recommend improvements as databases scale.
  • Participate in system capacity planning.
  • Participate in database design and data modeling and provide recommendations for improvement or optimizations.
  • Provide query and index optimizations.
  • Participate in an agile software development life-cycle; including providing testing guidelines for database related changes.
  • Provide SQL development support, evaluate query plans, and participate in query tuning.
  • Mentor other engineers in developing efficient SQL queries.
  • Assist in developing reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 85% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to travel 15% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
  • Minimum Qualifications*
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field; or High School Degree/General Education Diploma and 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a production RDBMS including experience with PostgreSQL.
  • 1+ years of experience with optimizing database performance through pro-active testing and ongoing real-time monitoring.
  • Basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables.
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge of SQL development and database design, PostgreSQL (tuning, optimization parameters, replication techniques, and data warehouse design), DML, and DDL.
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge of query planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

  • Preferred Qualifications*
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge with Java development stack, Hibernate and SDLC.
  • Coursework or professional working knowledge with AWS cloud base database administration and Amazon RDS support.
#LI-VZ1Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $135,000.00 The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis.
