Job Summary The Department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking Data Scientists with experience in health research or informatics. They will work with faculty in the Department to support ongoing research activities, producing innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets. The role requires applying knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries that lead to prototype development and product improvement. The position is only temporarily funded for one year from hire date, with potential extension based on additional funding and business need. If the ASTP or K grants cease funding, this position will terminate immediately. Responsibilities Produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from complex and high-dimensional datasets. Apply knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement. Use a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data. Generate and test hypotheses and analyze and interpret the results of product experiments. Work with product engineers to translate prototypes into new products, services, and features and provide guidelines for large-scale implementation. Data Scientist, I – Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree. Entry‑Level position in the General Professional track. Data Scientist, II – Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years, or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Developing‑Level position in the General Professional track. Minimum Qualifications Data Scientist, I: bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master’s (or equivalency) degree. Data Scientist, II: bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience. Preferences Education or experience with computer programming skills Experience with large datasets Proficiency in C Shell and VI editor in LINUX, SQL programming, moderate Python proficiency, and basic database management skills Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with a multi‑disciplinary team Full Time or Part Time?
