Position Title: Chinese Language Assistant

Department : Asian Studies

Reports To : Chinese Section Head

Classification: Non-Exempt FTE : .19 Starting Salary: $28.00/hour

Essential Job Duties:

1. Teach and Prepare Language Labs

• Teach all the lab sessions
• Prepare for the lab sessions
• Grade homework/assignments/quizzes
• Update attendance for all the lab sessions

1. Individual consulting time

• Hold weekly office hours
• Provide individual assistance to students when needed

1. Provide General Office and Class Management Support

• Attend program/department meetings
• Communicate with faculty in person and/or by email

1. Support, respect, and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community
2. Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle
3. Perform other duties as assigned

Work Schedule:

Term: Fall (14 weeks), Spring (14 weeks)

Shift: 14 hours per week (Varied around Class and Lab schedules); the standard 40-hour work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; variations to this schedule (for FTE less than 1.0), or flexible work arrangements, can be proposed and are subject to approval by HR and relevant supervisors

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associate's degree in a relevant field; native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese

Experience: 1+ years of experience in teaching/higher education institution or relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor's degree in Chinese or Education

Experience : 2+ years of experience in teaching/higher education institution

Prerequisites:

Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check, which may include criminal background checks, reference checks, verification of work history, verification of any required academic credentials, licenses, and/or certifications, a motor vehicle check, verification of a DOT certification, a credit check, employment eligibility verification, and/or a pre-employment physical.
