Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Human Performance and Sport Sciences with a teaching emphasis in the coaching program, effective August 1, 2025. Applications will be accepted until April 22, 2025, or until the position is filled. The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences is one of the largest on campus. The department focuses on bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science: Pre-Professional, Exercise Science: Strength & Conditioning, Coaching, Athletic Administration, K-12 Physical Education and Health (Teacher Preparation), and a master’s degree in Kinesiology – Coaching. The Coaching program at Southern Arkansas University is vibrant and one of the fastest-growing majors on campus, with 75+ majors. The online M.S. in Kinesiology-Coaching degree program was established in 2011 and focuses on the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC). It is accredited through the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE). Duties: Teach a full-time course load of classes in the undergraduate program in coaching and athletic administration, and graduate program in kinesiology – coaching; advise students in the undergraduate program on degree completion and career readiness; use a student-centered approach to teaching, advising, and mentoring; conduct scholarly research related to the field; service to the university, college, department, and field including committee work and other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Earned doctorate in kinesiology, sport pedagogy, physical education, or closely related field, ABD candidates will be considered for the position; enthusiasm to teach and mentor aspiring young professionals in coaching; ability to lead learning in face-to-face and online environments; strong desire to work with diverse student populations; continuous commitment to using data to improve the quality of all facets of the department; have a record of or the potential for scholarly research including presentations and publications; demonstrated excellence as an online teacher of record; active in regional, national, and/or international professional organizations; experience with the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC) and the United States Center for Coaching Excellence (USCCE).
